Like millions of other people, I have loved the song I Can Only Imagine. Until I read Bart Millard's new book by the same name, I had no idea about the story behind the song. This book will make you laugh and cry as you see God's grace interwoven through the tragedies and triumphs that have touched Bart's life. I would highly recommend reading the book as well as seeing the movie when it comes out on March 16th. The book goes into details that a movie just doesn't have time to share. I read an advanced copy of the book and have been anxiously waiting for the release so I could purchase copies for friends. Bart is known as an excellent storyteller through his songwriting and he has proven to be just as gifted in writing this book and sharing his family's story of abuse, abandonment, loss and redemption with great transparency, honesty and humility. I Can Only Imagine will take you on a journey, an emotional roller coaster ride you didn’t see coming. This book will make you laugh until you cry and break your heart to the point of tears all the while of lifting you up due to seeing God's grace in action. I don't often write reviews for books, but I had to for this one! I've been listening to Mercy Me since they first became popular. I also had the privilege of seeing them in concert last September and it is a night that I will remember always. If you ever have the opportunity, don't hesitate! It was such a wonderful night of worship and singing! I've been waiting as patiently as possible for the movie to come out in March, but when I saw that Bart had a memoir coming out, I pre-ordered it and read it as soon as I got it! Just like at the concert, I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more and cried some more! Bart has such a wonderful way with his songs and the words in this book when describing the Lord, that you immediately feel closer to Him. Bart gives you the good and the bad, but you know that God is always there. I loved reading about all of his God moments that have brought him to where he is now. Can't wait to see the movie!
As I watched interviews with the author, and read a synopsis of his story prior to reading the book, I was not sure that this would be more than a behind-the-scenes look at the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) industry. Wow, I was certainly wrong.The author rips off the scars of his youth and gives a heart-wrenching history of what he endured as the child at the hands of an abusive father, other experiences that shaped the man that he came to be, and his eventual path to follow Jesus Christ.If you've heard the popular song "I Can Only Imagine" written by Millard and performed by his CCM group MercyMe, this book will provide an emotional back-story for the lyrics and the song's message.The author's story is raw and uncomfortable at times. However, if you need an inspiring story of redemption and faith, buy this book and read it.
In the beginning of the book, the author explains about story telling and how movies can’t capture everything. I am so grateful to have read the book and that it filled in the missing gaps from the movie. The book is an excellent read about tough times from the kid years for Bart Millard. But with an end result that all children from abusive homes dream about. God can do the impossible! I’m still praying for mine, even if I have to wait till heaven to see the end result!
I was truly touched emotionally and spiritually throughout the entire book!!I heard I can only imagine about a day or so ,for the first time,of my dad getting definitely I'll. I was hooked. I left the hospital just to run home ,for the first time I days, so that I could shower and cook a hot meal for 4 kids a d husband. Half way through the meal I received an urgent phone call from the hospital stating that my dad was hysterically begging for me and wasn't doing well at all. On the way to the hospital I can only imagine came on!!! I became hysterical!!! I was never able to leave my father's side ,he passed away 3 days later. Thank God for using you as a way to speak so profoundly through words!!!A must read no matter your relationship with God!!!ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ’ðŸ’
I received a copy courtesy of the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I love the group MercyMe and the song I Can Only Imagine. So when I heard about the book coming out I had to pre-order. After receiving it I couldn't put in down. It is a story about love and forgiveness and God's mercy and how salvation can change a person's life. It made me laugh, cry, smile and examine my own relationship with God. It is a must read and I am looking forward to the movie which comes out March 16th.
