#4,274 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I found this book boring up until about 75% of the way through, and the characterization inconsistent. I bought this book because the first one, which I enjoyed, ended on a cliffhanger, and I wanted to know what happened next. Unlike the first book, which focuses on the developing relationship between the two main characters, this book is more focused on war, and there aren't many scenes between the two. They jump into a serious relationship, but they seem to barely see or talk to each other. The heroine is suddenly obsessed with pacifism, and often thinks and acts in a silly way, which was not the case in the first book. It was frustrating to me, and made me wonder if I misunderstood her character before. The training for war and worrying about the outcome drags on and on. After the worst happens, the book finally becomes interesting. The resolution was good enough to redeem the story for me, and I do plan to read others set in this world in the future.

While I didn't think the first book was the best book ever, I did like it well enough. The story being told made me want to continue on to this, the next and final book in the series relating to Sorcha and Eamonn. The book opens with a very short story of a rose that falls in love with a stag, which is meant to be a sort of metaphor for Sorcha and Eamonn. It was honestly a lovely story and I really enjoyed it...then the true story begins and everything takes a dive.Sorcha's personality takes a drastic and very negative turn. The entire point of the first novel was Sorcha wished so desperately to save her family she would even make a deal with a fae. Yet now that she's returned to the family she supposedly loves, all she does is feel sorry for herself. For the first quarter of the book Sorcha is whiny and endlessly complains of the "lesser" circumstances she lives in and how she belongs in the fae world because she's apparently too good for the human world now. She also feels no sympathy for her suffering family any longer and sees caring for them as an annoying burden. Most of what I have to say contains major spoilers so I'll have to skip over all that and just say this whole book was just a very frustrating read to me. It was still well-written and there were moments that I really liked, such as the interesting dwarf named Cait and the sadly minimal scenes with Bran, but all the main characters just did noting but make me feel annoyed, aggravated, or disappointed in their lack of growth. It's hard to like a book when your protagonist and your love interest are not characters you enjoy reading about.

Oh man I am at an utter loss for words. This book was beyond amazing!!! I absolutely fell in love with book one but this one has My heart soaring, then shattering and then piecing itself back together in the most perfect way. Book one ended with Sorcha being taken back to Ul Neil as Eammon is being attacked by his brother on Hy-brasil and omg what feeling that had me working through.Book two jumps right back in after a bit of time has passed and so many things have occured! I don't want to give any spoilers away but holy smokes what a journey these souls have to go through. The characters grew so much. Pain led to bitterness and impulsivity then became and grew through to much more. I love love loooove all the characters ( except for the obvious) in this series. The side characters offer so much to the story and help guide and support Sorcha and Eammon in so many ways. We are introduced to so many more characters and questions from book one are answered and expanded on so much more than I thought they would be.There are a few questions I'm left with but I'm hoping that the next series (wink wink) will answer some of it.Honestly I cannot say enough how amazed I am at this book. This book has made me pity the wicked from book one and ugh I just wanted to hate them. Such a brilliant take on the Seelie and Unseelie and lesser fae and how it all came together.

What can I say. This book wildly exceeded my expectations. Not only did it expand on Heart of the Fae by showing us more of the Otherworld and SO MUCH character development but it was also a heartwarming reminder of love and kindness and all that is good in this world.Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite fairytale so I was quick to pick up Heart of the Fae as it is a wonderful retelling of the original story. I loved its sequel Veins of Magic so much! Eamonn and Sorcha developed so much in this story and I felt the build up to the ending was perfect. Sorcha has become such a strong character and a fantastic warrior while still maintaining her desire to heal and help others. Eamonn has learned to not only trust and love those around him but also himself which I feel is a far cry from where he started in Heart of the Fae.I also loved the world building in Veins of Magic. In Heart of the Fae we were limited to mostly Hy-brasil but in Veins of Magic we got to actually see so much of the Otherworld! Good world building and character developments are two of the most important things to me in a good story. And that's what this duology accomplished.I cannot wait to see what Emma comes up with next!
